CAPITAL UNITED
CLUB
PHILOSOPHY:
The
Capital United Soccer Club was established in 1988 to develop
promising local talent into strong, competitive players capable of
performing at the collegiate level and beyond. Although we have
been very successful in promoting our training philosophy,
garnering seven State Cup Championships and appearing in numerous
State Cup Final matches, we emphasize not the winning, but rather
the growth and development of our players. Our vision is
to provide each player with the best opportunities to grow as
an individual and team player, and to be seen and interact with
college coaches.
PLAYER
DEVELOPMENT:
Player development with Capital United
begins with skills
training and advancing to tactics and game strategies once these
skills are mastered. Our younger teams train year around, with
indoor clinics to supplement weekly practice sessions. During the
summer, they participate in the more intense Coerver training where
the entire team trains as a whole, focusing on both technical and
tactical development.
Our older players are primarily on hiatus in the fall
due to focusing on high school ball. Due to their
outstanding play, many are named
to all-conference, all-section, all-region and all-state teams.
In addition to
playing for their respective schools, the teams reunite to compete
in college showcase tournaments which are primary venues for
college coaches to recruit future players. As
a result of their performances at these tournaments, many of our
players have received scholarships to colleges such as Penn State,
UCONN, James Madison, University of Buffalo, UNC Charlotte, Davidson, UMASS, and
many more. Once school ball is over, the teams return to
regular practice sessions and play in the indoor leagues.
Additionally, they play in collegiate tournaments, one of the only
premier teams invited to participate in these events.
During the summer, they attend camps run by Division I schools
including UMASS and UCONN and compete in the Region I Director’s
League.
During the spring, most teams participate in the Eastern New York
State Cup competition in which we have competed quite well over the
years.
COACHING:
Our
first priority is to our players, providing them with US Soccer
Federation (USSF) licensed coaches and the most challenging
opponents. Players benefit from a highly sophisticated
instructional effort, which blends the skills of the Coerver
coaching method with the training strategies used by the most
successful professional programs in the world. Liz Villamil, a
product of our program, is Director of Coaching. In addition to
Liz, the coaching staff includes Rob Bruley and Keith Villamil.
